World Cancer Day is coming up on Thursday, February 4th. The day is used to bring awareness to cancer worldwide.

This year's theme is 'We Can. I Can.' and will focus on positive and proactive ways to fight cancer.

There are four main focuses of this year's campaign:

  • Choosing healthy lives
  • Delivering early detection
  • Achieving treatment for all
  • Maximizing quality of life

Although great strides have been made with over 8.2 million people worldwide dying from cancer each year there is still a lot to be done. This particular day is set aside each year to bring awareness to all forms of cancer, not one specific type.

Many countries do not have access to screenings and medical attention to help deal with a diagnosis. The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is a non-governmental organization that helps fund 800 organizations in 155 countries. They help with research, ministries of health, treatment centers, patients groups and more.

Thursday, February 4th, is a day set aside to bring worldwide attention to Prevention, Detection and Treatment of all forms of cancer. You can join in that day by helping get the word out that #WeCanICan beat cancer.

You can help locally by joining a walk-a-thon, such as Relay for Life or donating to an organization like the American Cancer Society. We must find a way to put a stop to the growing number of diagnosis and deaths due to cancer.
