I was talking to someone about this on my personal feed the other day and thought everybody might find something of interest here. So, put on your helmet, we're headed into the time machine!

Scary rock has been around almost as long as rock.  You can trace it back to Screaming Jay Hawkins and run it all the way up into todays black metal.  I've explained to you before how Alice Cooper was one of my first faves, but he didn't scare me.  He seemed more like a kid playing at being scary than anything.  It wasn't long after I discovered Alice Cooper that I got a copy of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" from an older cousin.  Still, although the music was ultra-heavy, I didn't think of it as scary.  The first band that I ever listened to that I thought might be in league with, I don't know, who could it be?...uh SATAN, was Blue Oyster Cult.  Now, some of you are chuckling a bit because you've only heard the radio stuff from Blue Oyster Cult.  As much as I love the radio stuff, it is no representative of the band as a whole.  It was more like "the record company wants a single, so here it is, so we can get back to stealing souls".  Well along with the band came their iconic symbol. I thought it was about the coolest thing ever and drew it on all of my book covers, desks and even carved it into a few trees.  Now a little later on I became a Christian and I was horrified to find out that the symbol was 'THE CROSS OF UNCERTAINTY!"  Yes, it was a symbol to question the very existence of God!  I quit putting the symbol places immediately and was worried about the damage I'd done.  So there you go, that was the first time that I believed a band could truly be "EVIL".  Of course I no longer beleive any of that stuff and see it just as a cool design/marketing trick to get people like me to write the band logo all over.

So, what was the first band that you thought was a little scary, or a little evil? Or if you weren't as gullible as me, what was the first band your parents were worried about you listening to?
