The sport of basketball is biggest in America, but its popularity at this summer’s Olympics in London proves that it’s still growing internationally. That global reach is reflected on the soundtrack to the forthcoming ‘NBA 2K13′ video game, which includes Irish rockers U2 and Brits Coldplay on a track listing that features a vastly diverse offering of music, both geographically and genre-wise.

French electronica artists PhoenixDaft Punk and Justice, New York indie rockers Dirty Projectors and NYC singer Santigold also are included on the Jay-Z-curated in-game soundtrack, which is filled out from there with the usual mix of rappers and hip-hoppers like Kanye West, Nas and Jay-Z himself.  ’NBA 2K13′ drops on Oct. 2.

“I’m not sure if they’ve ever been in a video game,” game maker 2K Sport’s vice president of marketing, Jason Argent, tells Billboard of U2′s inclusion, and he’s right – they were on the soundtrack of the big screen adaptation of ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ video game, but have never been in an actual game.
