Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider Denounces Politician Paul Ryan’s Use of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’

It seems like whenever a Presidential race begins, some politician rubs a musician the wrong way by using their music as a campaign theme. In 1984, Bruce Springsteen went after Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan for using ‘Born in the USA,’ Foo Fighters barred John McCain from playing ‘My Hero’ during his campaign, and now, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider had denounced the use of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ by Republican Vice Presidential hopeful Paul Ryan.

Paul Ryan recently received a tongue-lashing by Tom Morello after the Rage Against the Machine guitarist was informed that Ryan was, in fact, a fan of the band. In an additional example of Paul Ryan showing his taste for statements of antiauthoritarianism in music, the Republican chose to add Twisted Sister’s ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ to the soundtrack of his political campaign. Dee Snider, however, stood by the song’s message in a new statement against Ryan.

Snider released the following statement representing himself and the vocalist’s management company:

I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan’s use of my song “Were Not Gonna Take It” as recorded by my band Twisted Sister. There is almost nothing on which I agree with Paul Ryan, except perhaps the use of the P90X.

Paul Ryan has not yet responded to Snider’s message, but despite their differences, it looks like they could end up becoming good workout partners.
