I believe there is a "horror movie for every occasion". I think these are five great ones to choose from this Halloween.

Do you like scary movies? I sure as heck do. I love horror films. I actually tend to lean towards reality based ones (killers not supernatural stuff) but just as quick as I wrote that, I realized that my list for Halloween near completely contradicts that statement.  Anyways, if you're looking for ideas, check some of these off your list.

    Halloween

Do you choose the original John Carpenter or the Rob Zombie update? I'd say go with the original, but the update wasn't that bad (but Rob's Halloween 2 wasn't that great). Watching Halloween on Halloween is a natural.

This one has got better with age. It sure had some hit or miss moments, but who doesn't love Sam (who may or may not be the spirit of Halloween)

The Evil Dead I or II

Take your pic, The Evil Dead I, II or even the remake. There is something very real and very visceral about these films. Even Evil Dead II which features some manic humor will give you the creeps.

    13 Ghosts

I have always made the same claim about this movie. This is the only movie EVER where you should watch one of the extra features before you watch the movie. The d.v.d. (if you can get it) had a quickie documentary on who all of the 13 Ghosts were.

    Scream

There's something about the being home alone aspect of this that sets the tone for the movie. It's all about the person being terrorized, then killed. From there it becomes a great commentary on horror films in general.
