Jay Leno’s Last ‘Tonight Show’ Set for February Finish
Well, there’s no stopping the train now, knock on wood. It will be some months until reigning late night king Jay Leno abdicates the ‘Tonight Show‘ throne to Jimmy Fallon, changing the title to ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in the process, but at long last, Leno finally has his official February exit date.
According to Deadline, Leno will host his last ‘Tonight Show’ on February 6, 2014, though lucky for the them, the 170+ staff of the show will remain paid through Leno’s contract in September. Meanwhile, Fallon will officially begin his tenure at ‘The Tonight Show’ during the 2014 Winter Olympics, in the second week of the Sochi games on Monday, February 24th, when ratings are at their highest.
Immediately following Fallon’s debut, Seth Meyers will file down the line beginning his run as host of ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ at 12:30 AM, both shows shooting in New York for the first time in decades. Of course, Leno may yet find himself a new NBC gig in the future, as NBC president Bob Greenblatt told reporters last month “Nothing would make us happier for Jay, a la Bob Hope, to have presence at the network, we’re really hoping to do that, post February.”
Well, what say you? Will you tune in for Jay Leno’s last show on February 6? What about Jimmy Fallon as host of the latest incarnation?
