Thirty Seconds to Mars recently appeared on MTV's 2017 Video Music Awards to perform their single "Walk on Water," bringing out rapper Travis Scott to deliver a verse during the song.

The performance is notable for the fact in that the way it was presented to viewers at home. It shows frontman Jared Leto and the rest of the band as well as their host of backup dancers all under a heat sensor, thermal vision camera. The rest of the stage was covered in total darkness, just bodies moving around.

Leto donned a bulletproof vest and a ski mask, eventually taking his mask off to face the camera. Travis Scott came out for his verse, his voice completely auto-tuned, which added a neat dynamic to the song but probably won't win over any 30STM faithful.

Also at the VMAs, Jared Leto honored Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell in a speech. “MTV asked me to come here today to say a few words about Chester and the late great Chris Cornell — two artists I had the absolute pleasure of touring with,” said Leto. “They were close friends with one another, Chester even singing a cover of the classic ‘Hallelujah’ at Chris’ funeral. Chester said of Chris, ‘Your voice was joy and pain and anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up until one.’ Just weeks later, Chester himself was gone”

The band has been gearing up to release their next album which as of yet has no title. Last month, the group announced their upcoming documentary A Day in the Life of America, a documentary composed of fan shot film which they took on this past July 4. It's bound to be an interesting documentary, and will show off what many different citizens of the country interpret what it means to be an American.
