From the first time a kid picks up a basketball, he imagines hitting a half-court shot as the clock runs out. Austin Worthen, a third grader from Oklahoma, has fulfilled that dream before his tenth birthday.

The bank is open!

OK, it’s true that he hit the shot before the halftime buzzer. And his team was already ahead 18 to 4, so it wasn’t like they desperately needed the points. But just his being able to throw the ball that far is pretty darn impressive for someone his size. The kid who took the shot previous to Austin’s hurl could barely get the ball up to net level.

And even if it wasn’t a traditional buzzer beater, Austin did get the traditional buzzer beater celebration. Well deserved, we say. Keep gunning, Austin.
