The Legend of the Candy Cane – True or False? [VIDEO]

Candy Canes are a staple of Christmas. You see them as candles, hanging on trees, passed out during parades and used as decoration. They are big, small and now come in a huge variety of flavors not just peppermint. But did you know the Candy Cane actually has a Christian legend behind it?

The Legend of the Candy Cane refers to the symbolism in how a candy cane is striped. In short, the story goes that a candymaker made the candy in the shape of a "J" which represented Jesus. The white referred to the Virgin birth and sinless life of Jesus. The candy cane then needed something more so he used three red stripes. The larger of the red stripes was for the blood shed by Christ, the smaller stripes were for Christs crown of thorns, wounds in His hands and feet and the cross on which he died.

I have heard this story for as long as I can remember. I learned it in Sunday school as a kid. Now that we have internet and research is easy, I checked and Snopes says this story is false.

However, it's a great story and it's a nice way to remember Christ and keep Him in Christmas regardless of what Snopes says .  It makes it easier for kids to learn and remember the great story of Jesus I guess, so what difference does it make if it's true or false.
