Korehira Watanabe is one of the few Japanese sword makers left in the world. He was taken with the idea of sword making as a young man and has spent four decades perfecting his craft and following his passion despite alienating himself from a family who wanted him to choose a more practical path.

Over the past 40 years, Watanabe has honed his craft in an attempt to recreate the Koto, a samurai sword style that dates back to the Heian and Kamakura periods. Watanabe understands the importance of maintaining tradition in the face of encroaching modernity, as well as the need for us all to do what truly makes us happy.

The video shows a true master at work.
