The Killers are reportedly working with critically acclaimed German filmmaker Werner Herzog on a concert webcast set to be shot in New York City on Sept. 18, the same day that the band’s new ‘Battle Born’ album hits stores.

The webcast will be the 11th installment of the ‘American Express: Unstaged’ series, which features popular musicians and celebrated directors teaming up for concerts streamed live on VEVO and YouTube. Previous episodes have featured the pairings of Gary Oldman with Jack White, Anton Corbijn with Coldplay and David Lynch with Duran Duran.

As for Herzog’s plans for the webcast, let’s just say they are appropriately killer. ”He has ideas for someone crowd-surfing with a camera on,” bassist Mark Stoermer tells Rolling Stone. ”He’s gonna put cameras on Ronnie [Vannucci, Jr.] while he’s playing drums.”

Stoermer adds that Herzog, director of such cinema classics as ‘Nosferatu the Vampyre’ and the 2005 documentary ‘Grizzly Man,’ is taking the gig seriously. Herzog recently met with the band in their hometown of Las Vegas and told them that he had been closely studying previous ‘Unstaged’ episodes for flaws. ”He wanted to not make any mistakes that any of the other directors may have made,” Stoermer says. “He definitely wanted to make the best version of this live Amex performance of any director so far.”

The Killers ‘American Express: Unstaged’ concert webcast airs live from the Paradise Theater in the Bronx borough of New York on Sept. 18 at 7PM ET. Check out the live stream here.
