The Killers Are Cool With Mitt Romney’s Fandom

The Silversun Pickups recently asked Mitt Ronmey to stop playing their tune ‘Panic Switch’ during campaign events, but it doesn’t seem like the Killers have taken such a hard-line stance against the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee. Last week, Romney named the Las Vegas rockers when asked to list his favorite bands – ”The Killers are one group I enjoy,” he told Parade magazine — and Killers bassist Mark Stoermer, for one, is more than happy to have him as a fan.

“Anyone’s allowed to like us. If it’s just about music, I guess it’s not a negative thing,” Stoermer tells Rolling Stone. ”He’s, I guess, a guy and he listens to music and happens to like us. That’s fine.”

But would the Killers be open to playing the White House if Romney is elected? ”We’d have to cross that bridge when we come to it,” says Stoermer. “We’re not really a political band. And we don’t necessarily have all the same views, but none of us are very politically active anyway. I guess we would be open to it, depending on if and when it happens and what it was about.”

Despite Stoermer’s assertion that the Killers are an apolitical band, they did perform at a campaign rally for Democratic U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid held in Sin City back in 2010. Then again, Reid, like Killers frontman Brandon Flowers — and Romney, for that matter — is a Mormon, so perhaps the band was backing him more for his religious views than his political ones. If that’s the case, don’t be surprised if the Killers do indeed rock the White House this fall — if Romney’s in it, of course.
