Heritage has been in the news a lot lately, but let's put that specific incident to the side. I'm having a hard time understand why anybody cares "where your people come from."

Heritage is one of those things that is totally beyond your control. I don't think it really means anything. I guess it's fun when you get to feel a part of something like Cinco De Mayo or some type of Oktoberfest or something, but day in and day out, who cares?

You had no control over whether you are Asian or Alaskan. Chances are if you are reading this, you probably have no memory of those places if you ever lived there at all. I think I'm Romanian/Transylvanian (seriously), but I'm not even real sure of that. I just don't care enough to find out.

The measure of your worth isn't what breeding stock you came from. It's what you are achieving or have achieved in life that matters.

If all you can do is celebrate your DNA, then you probably haven't accomplished much since you were born.  Instead of looking backward, maybe it's time to start working on creating memories that future generations will talk about.
