The Birds of Satan Featuring Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Stream Self-Titled Disc

Foo Fighters may still be working toward a new record, but drummer Taylor Hawkins is keeping busy with his new band The Birds of Satan. The group will release its self-titled debut disc next Tuesday (April 15), but potential fans can check it out a full week before its release.

There should be little doubt that this is Hawkins’ band as the opening song, ‘The Ballad of the Birds of Satan,’ opens with a lengthy frenetic drum solo before kicking into gear. The second song on the album is the previously released, ‘Thanks For the Line’ — an infectious, foot-tapping single.

‘Pieces of the Puzzle’ takes listeners off to the races with its high-energy start, but then scales back significantly with a ska-like beat before ramping up the guitars once again. ‘Raspberries’ provides a more mid-tempo, melodic meditation, while ‘Nothing At All’ has an easy sway to it until the chorus kicks in.

The disc is rounded out by the fast-paced ‘Wait ‘Til Tomorrow,’ while ‘Too Far Gone To See’ ends on a more psychedelic and moody note. You can check out the full stream at the band’s website.

The Birds of Satan also features Hawkins’ cohorts Wiley Hodgins and Mick Murphy, while Foo Fighters extended family Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Rami Jaffe and Drew Hester all make cameos.

The Birds of Satan album is currently available for pre-order via iTunes and Amazon, and there are also other bundle and merchandise packages at this location.
