Quick. How many teams are in the Big 12?  If you answered 12, you would be logical, quick thinking and wrong. There are 10 teams in the Big 12, because somehow that makes sense.

The Big 12 has opted to stay with the current 10 teams according to  an AP report. The commissioner and the presidents of the ten colleges in the conference met for six hours before punting on expansion. My guess is simple, the 10 current teams suck and they don't want to be beat two more times each year. Okay, that's only partially a joke. My guess is that right now the Big 12 is really weak and that would allow the teams joining to come in with better deals than they would normally get. After all it's really about the money, isn't it?

This decision is a kick to the athletic cup of the average college football supporter. It means less variety, less rivalries and less new locals to visit. The Big 12 could really use some excitement right now and blew it in a one day meeting. SMU, BYU, Houston and Air Force were among the teams considered. I think any of these might have been fun additions for Tech fans (oh, and we could have one of those special trips if we had let Colorado State in).

So boo to you Big 12. You let the fans down and if you continue to be such a weak conference, there just might come a day when these teams don't want to join up.
