There are things we take for granted everyday; being able to breath, talk, see or even hear. Sometimes it takes experiencing someone else's joy in doing one of the those for the first time to make us appreciate what we have. Maggie Gleason was born deaf but in this video she will hear her family say 'I Love You' for the first time.Maggie is 14 now but doctors gave her little chance of living more than a year when she was born. She had many obstacles stacked against her like a cleft palate, collapsed lungs, weak kidneys and being deaf (she had no cochleas).

Having no cochleas a normal cochlear implant was not possible so Maggie underwent a 10 hour procedure to implant an Auditory Brainstem. This allows the ear to be bypassed completely and sound waves to be sent directly to her brain. She still has a long road ahead with speech therapy to learn how to talk but the look on her face when she hears for the first time no doubt trumps the hard work.
