Tom Hardy successfully mumbled his way through a bonkers first season of FX and The BBC’s Taboo, so why not a second? Yes, James Keziah Delaney (and his hat) will be back for a second round, and no sister is safe.

For the moment, it remains unclear when a second season would shoot, given Hardy’s otherwise busy schedule, but FX is all the same excited to have Taboo back for another round, as one of the highest-rated new U.S. cable dramas over the last year:

Taboo’s first season was exceptional and its success on FX is testament to the creative excellence and dedication of the producers, cast and crew. We are proud to again join BBC One and Sonar Entertainment in partnering with Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker on the second season and look forward to working again with the great Tom Hardy, Steven Knight, Ridley Scott, Chips Hardy and everyone who makes Taboo so remarkable.

Added creator and executive producer Steven Knight, who expounded on the series’ bizarre approach:

I’m thrilled that a work which pushes boundaries has been so well received and found such a large and enthusiastic audience in the U.S. and Britain. We have tried to take an impressionistic, rather than figurative, approach to a narrative which we hope more accurately portrays the spirit of an extraordinary time in history. James Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world, thanks to FX and the BBC, partners who could not be more suited to collaborating in ground breaking work.

The series stems from an idea between Hardy and his father Chips, starring House of Cards vet Michael Kelly, Game of Thrones stars Jonathan Pryce and Oona Chaplin, Pirates alum Tom Hollander, Boardwalk Empire criminal Stephen Graham, Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss, Franka Potente, David Hayman and more.

We’ll see what Season 2 has to offer in the next year, but what ludicrous new directions might Taboo head in?
