Excited by the new Strider game but don't really have a reference for the character other than his appearances in the Marvel vs. Capcom series? Then this retrospective video is for you!

This video from CapcomUnity gives us a look at the man behind the myth and lets us brush up on our gaming history. Strider Hiryu got his start in the arcades in 1989. The game featured frenetic hack-and-slash action in a cybernetic, post-apocalyptic world. If that doesn't sound like something straight out of the late '80s and early '90s, then we don't know what does.

Strider would eventually make it onto the Nintendo Entertainment System with a more fleshed out story that took advantage of the home console format. In 1990, a sequel called Strider II was released, but we wouldn't see another game in the series until 1999, when a different Strider 2 would debut on the PlayStation.

Now, about 15 years later, Strider will make his triumphant return to the spotlight in his own game on the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We only have to wait until Feb. 18 to start flipping around and slicing up dudes with our Cyphers, so watch the retrospective video above to pass the time.
