The fan who disappeared after a Stone Roses concert last month has been found dead. Police discovered the body of 22-year-old Chris Brahney Monday morning (July 9) and confirmed that it was him.

Brahney went missing after the Stone Roses’ June 29 show at Heaton Park in Manchester, England. The Greater Manchester Police issued a notice that the young man had not been in contact with his family, prompting a flood of pleas on Facebook and Twitter for any leads to Brahney’s whereabouts. According to NME, his body was found in the Manchester Ship Canal.

The Brahney family issued an official statement Monday afternoon on a Facebook group page dedicated to finding Chris.

“It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Brahney family I am writing to you all,” the note reads. “The police will be issuing a formal statement soon regarding the body that was found in the Canal this morning.”

“At this time we believe that it is Chris, however formal identification has still to take place,” it continues. “The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers that you have sent our way. Thank you for all the support, it has given them immense strength and courage. Please respect the family’s wishes and ensure that they are left alone during this difficult time.”

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Chris Brahney.
