‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ — Mark Hamill Talks About Returning as Luke Skywalker

‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ is still a few years away, but it’s all the internet can talk about…even though everyone knows nothing about it. In that way, it’s kinda comforting to know that Luke Skywalker himself is just as much in the dark as the rest of us! Although the one and only Mark Hamill can’t provide us with any hard data on the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ adventure, he unleashed his two cents on the entire project into the internet.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hamill immediately made it clear that while he’s been approached about returning, nothing has been confirmed and no contracts have been signed…mainly because producer Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Michael Arndt have been so busy that they’ve yet to have a formal meeting:
“Theyâre talking to us. George [Lucas] wanted to know whether weâd be interested. He did say that if we didnât want to do it, they wouldnât cast another actor in our parts â they would write us out. ⦠I can tell you right away that we havenât signed any contracts. Weâre in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed â on their end, not mine. Theyâre more busy than I am.”
Although Hamill is never not working (his IMDB page is an amazing list of animation voice over work), he of all people should know that a project like ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ is a slow moving machine and that the powers-that-be will call upon him when he’s needed. He seems game to return, but like fans the world over, he’s hoping the new films will be more like the original trilogy than the prequels:
“I said to George that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous â in my opinion, anyway. And another thing Iâd want to make sure of is are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie and Harrison and Billy Dee and Tony Daniels, everybody thatâs around from the original [returning]? I want to make sure that everybodyâs on board here, rather than just one.”
And like the professional entertainment journalists who will be grilling him on this film for the next two years, Mr. Hamill can speculate with with the best of them! Like us, he believes that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ will follow the children of the characters from the original trilogy:
“Iâm assuming, because I havenât talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring â like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range [as] an influential character. ⦠When I found out [while making the original trilogy] that ultimate good news/bad news joke â the good news is thereâs a real attractive, hot girl in the universe; the bad news is sheâs your sister â I thought, âWell, Iâm going to wind up like Sir Alec [Guinness]. Iâm going to be a lonely old hermit living out in some kind of desert igloo with a couple of robots.â”

Possibly. Probably. Also, expect approximately 1,047 other “Mark Hamill Talks Star Wars” articles between now and then.
