Is a ‘Star Trek’ Worf TV Series Moving Closer to Reality?

Star Trek Worf TV Series
Paramount

As starved as we are for any scoop or footage of J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek 2,’ it’s no secret that we’d love to see ‘Star Trek’ back on the small screen one day.  Of course, it’d be impossible to say whether any future ‘Star Trek’ TV series would follow the new continuity established by the Abrams films, or return to the classic universe, but at least one ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ star believes he’s moving closer toward spinning off into his own series.  Could it ever really happen?

Though it might seem like a pipe dream to some, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ star Michael Dorn believes there to be hope yet that his classic Worf character could find new life on the small screen.  We’d previously heard from the Klingon’s mouth that he’d begun writing a script featuring the character commanding his own ship “on the front lines, chasing terrorists” with a mostly new crew, and that he’d envisioned the project as either a straight-to-DVD or even Syfy TV movie release.  SO, is the project any closer to reality?

Speaking to Trek Movie recently, Dorn had a few positive updates on the status of the project, which would largely sidestep any continuity issues created by the J.J. Abrams films:

Interestingly enough it has gotten traction. I was very surprised, I was on a movie not too long ago, where one of the producers was basically lobbying to be part of it. He was like “Michael, I’d love to write it, if you haven’t.” So at this point, my agents and my manager are looking at all the avenues and trying to figure out which is the best one.

My agent and manager have been in the business for awhile, so they’re very savvy about where to start and how to get it going. Like I said, in this business you never know and I’ve been through pitching things and I never want to do that again [laughs]. It’s pretty brutal, but definitely I think once again, if Paramount or CBS or anybody thinks this is a viable thing, they’ll jump on it.

Of course, Dorn also previously mentioned that he wouldn’t be free to start working on a project until his schedule cleared in 2013, but considering the next Abrams flick is due out May 17, we imagine Paramount won’t be looking for any confusion in their franchises.

What say you?  Would you want to see Worf get his own movie, or even TV series?  What other incarnations could ‘Star Trek’ have besides the Abrams films? Transmit us your thoughts in the comments!
