Staind frontman Aaron Lewis may have been active as a country artist over the last few years, but that doesn't mean his metal roots have completely been laid to rest. At a recent free concert promoting his new upcoming album State I'm In, Lewis screamed a few times during his performance of the Staind classic "It's Been Awhile."

The pop-up show was held Jan. 29 at Legend's Corner in Nashville, Tenn., the same day he announced his upcoming third country album. In the video of the performance, which was live streamed on Facebook, Lewis approaches the mic and says, "Not to make myself sound as old as I am, but I wrote this song 25 years ago." The country rendition of the song begins with a slow, melodic drumbeat paired with slide and acoustic guitars. Lewis first screams over the soft background music during the second verse, proving that his vocal chords have still got it. See the full performance below. "It's Been Awhile" starts at 1:00:29.

Lewis is currently on tour in support of State I'm In, which is available for preorder now and will be released in April. See the dates here.
