With the government shutdown, businesses across the country have been trying to help out military families by offering discounts or even free meals. Count Chicken Express on the south side of Abilene as one trying to help out by offering a free meal today (October 15th).

According to Chicken Express' Facebook page, the south side location, at 3374 Turner Plaza, will be offering a free meal to anyone in the military, including their families, from 11-2.

From their Facebook page:

Hello all of our friends! Due to the lack of our government working for our military men and women, we will be doing our part to help. On October 15, 2013 from 11-2, we will be feeding all military personnel and their families who are dining in that day for FREE! If our government can't do anything to fix this problem, it is our job as Americans to pull together and help however we can. Please take the time to let your military families and friends know that we will stand up for them the only way we know how.

What a cool thing that Chicken Express is doing for our military. It's just proof that when it comes to helping others, Abilene has some great people in town to do just that.

If you, or a business you know of, is doing something similar to what Chicken Express is doing, let us know by commenting below or emailing me, and we'll be sure spread the word.
