Been wondering when the rumored next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft will be announced? Sony's CEO Kazuo Hirai said Sony won't be first out of the gate.

Much has been made about the upcoming release of next generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft. Though neither company has explicitly stated new systems are in development, the past year has been filled with rumors about specs, release dates, and potential device names. While the gaming public eagerly awaits news on when and where these new consoles will arrive, Sony and Microsoft seem content to play release date chess.

Sony's CEO Kazuo Hirai at least seems the most adamant that Sony won't budge before Microsoft. IGN pointed out a recent interview with The Times, in which Hirai stated his thoughts.

"Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" Hirai asked. Of course, the concept that Sony might be waiting to see what Microsoft has up its sleeve before revealing the next PlayStation is a bit of a misdirect. If the rumors are true, the next PlayStation is already well in development, and with a release expected by the end of 2013, it's unlikely Sony would implement sweeping changes at the last minute.

What do you think of Hirai's statements? Which console do you want to arrive first?
