A brand new fan film starring the Blue Blur has been released, courtesy of Eddie Lebron, who previously worked on a Mega Man fan film.

It's 18 minutes long and features a CG Sonic racing around with live actors in the real world. Dr. Robotnik is present, played by a real live actor, and is decidedly less rotund than we'd like, but he certainly brings the nastiness. The spec film is meant to show how it would look if Sonic the Hedgehog was filmed as a live action movie with CG used for Sonic and his enemies. The film tries to pack a lot into the 18 minutes and is an interesting gritty interpretation of the franchise.

But perhaps the best thing about the film is that Jaleel White, best known for having played nerdy Steven Q. Urkel on the 90's sitcom, Family Matters, reprises his role as the voice of Sonic. Though he doesn't sound exactly as he did back in the 90's when the Sonic cartoon aired, it's still pretty cool to hear him voice the character once more.
