If you’re a longtime Smashing Pumpkins fan, you probably know that Billy Corgan is a pro wrestling fan, and he does pretty much whatever he wants in creative decision making.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Billy Corgan is starting his own wrestling promotion company

“I’ve been involved sort of behind the scenes with pro wrestling for about a decade and made a lot of friends in the business,” Corgan said during an appearance on the Chicago FOX News affiliate last week. “It’s a very insular business and it’s a long story, but I essentially got involved with some brothers who had a wrestling promotion. We decided to form our own promotion and we’re going to try to bring wrestling back to the glory days.”

Corgan will act as creative director of the new company, called Resistance Pro Wrestling, which means he’ll be the one writing the story lines for the wrestlers to follow in the ring. “Old school” is the name of the game for Resistance, which means a return to the sort of over-the-top antics of the glory days of Andre the Giant, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan.

Resistance Pro Wrestling will host its first event on November 25 at the Excalibur in Chicago. In the meantime, Corgan is on the road with his latest incarnation of Smashing Pumpkins.
