Slash has a jam packed schedule at this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in  Austin, Texas. One of the events he'll be a part of is March 13's Jimi Hendrix Celebration.

The free event will take place at Austin's Butler Park on Thursday night (March 13). Curated by Wayne Kramer (MC5), a number of guitar greats are set to appear. In addition to Slash and Kramer, others participating include Robby Krieger (The Doors), Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney), Dave & Phil Alvin and Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction). The tribute will also feature Doug Pinnick (King's X), Mary Bridget Davies and Jesse Malin.

Before the music begins, the U.S. Postal Service will unveil the new Jimi Hendrix Forever Stamp, part of its Music Icons series. A Janis Joplin stamp is also set to be issued later this year.

In addition to that event, Slash will be launching the Slashathon at SXSW on Wednesday (March 12). It's described as an “artist-focused hackathon.” Competing developers will rush to create their applications and technology, and Slash will use the winning “hack” for the release of his next album.

Speaking of that next album, fans can keep up with its progress via a web series. 'Real to Reel With Slash' takes viewers inside the studio as Slash, Myles Kennedy, Todd Kerns and Brent Fitz give a behind the scenes peek at the progress of the recording.
