Sammy Hagar: ‘I Wanna Say I’m Sorry of Anything I Said Bad’ About Van Halen

Earlier this year, Sammy Hagar reached out to Eddie Van Halen with a birthday message wishing him well, and Van Halen responded in kind, which set many Van Halen fans in a tizzy after the long warring former bandmates were publicly civil to each other. In the time since, Hagar has expressed his desire to make peace with his former bandmates, and it’s something he’s reiterated in an upcoming special on OWN airing this weekend.

Hagar is set to appear on Oprah: Where Are They Now? this Saturday (Aug. 20) at 10PM on OWN and while the feature is on the vocalist, the topic of Van Halen does come up. In the teaser for the special, seen above, Hagar says, “The whole Van Halen issue, I really put that behind me, and I’m proud of what we did. So I’ve decided, forgive and forget.”

He continued, “I ain’t looking for nothing from nobody. I don’t wanna … I ain’t asking to be, you know … get back in the band and do all that again. That’s work! I don’t wanna do that. No, no, no, I just wanna be friends. I wanna say I’m sorry of anything I said bad about you.”

Back in March, Hagar revealed that the recent deaths of such music icons as David Bowie and Glenn Frey factored into his decision to seek peace with his former bandmates. “I realized that I didn’t want to take my enemies to the grave. If I K.O. tomorrow, I don’t want to have an enemy. I don’t know how the afterlife works, but I’d just as soon not go there with any enemies,” the singer expressed to Rolling Stone.
