The creator of 'Alien' and the executive producer behind 'Killing Kennedy' have been joined by a longtime collaborator of Steven Spielberg in order to create a new digital Halo feature for 343 Industries.

Science fiction fans rejoice, Sergio Mimica-Gezzan has been chosen as the director of a chaptered, perhaps even episodic, Halo-based feature for 343 Industries and Microsoft Studios, The Wrap reports. Mimica-Gezzan is an established filmmaker who has directed numerous episodes of multiple sci-fi series with cult followings, such as 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Heroes.' Mimica-Gezzan has also directed episodes of 'Falling Skies' and the miniseries 'The Pillars of the Earth.' He first became recognized in Hollywood as being Steven Spielberg's first assistant director for eight of the Hollywood heavyweight's films, including 'Minority Report,' 'A.I.,' 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Schindler's List.' Mimica-Gezzan was also first assistant director on Roland Emmerich's patriotic, alien war movie, 'Independence Day.' With such an illustrious history of previous works, this Halo project seems to be in good hands.

Supervising the creation of the film will include both Ridley Scott, of 'Alien,' 'Gladiator' and 'Prometheus' fame, along with David Zucker, TV president of Scott Free Productions, both acting as executive producers for the project. Scott Free currently produces 'The Good Wife' on CBS, 'Klondike' on the Discovery Channel and has recently produced AMC's two pilots of the upcoming series 'Raiders' and 'Galyntine,' where Zucker has been executive producer for most of Scott Free Production's projects.

Ridley Scott, David Zucker and Sergio Mimica-Gezzan are rumored to have their minds set on 'Prison Break' creator Paul Scheuring to write and script the Halo feature. This project is likely to follow in the footsteps of 'Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,' where Master Chief is not the main character in order to help appeal to audiences who are unfamiliar with the franchise so they might not be turned off by the Halo series' stoic, faceless and rather emotionless hero.

This live-action Halo project is anticipated to debut by the end of the year. Microsoft and 343 Industries are expected to officially unveil the project in June at E3, hopefully with a trailer. It is also likely that this film is going to assist in the promotion of the next official Halo game, similar to how 'Forward Unto Dawn' helped promote Halo 4, prior to its release.
