Welcome to Rocktober! Here at Loudwire, we're spending the month looking back at 32 of the great rock radio songs of the 21st Century and trying to determine which is the best. That's where you come in, as your votes will determine the winner. This Rocktober Rumble Round 1 battle features two great radio favorites from the early 2000s.

On one side of our first battle, you have Red Hot Chili Peppers and their title track from 2002's "By the Way" album. The song, which Anthony Kiedis called "an uber-bombastic assault of non-commercialism," surprised the singer with its success, but fans turned out en masse, making the track No. 1 at rock radio for seven straight weeks. The song can be heard in the player below.

In 2001, it was hard to miss Incubus and the ebb and flow of their radio favorite "Wish You Were Here." The song, from the band's Morning View album, juxtaposed melodic verses against a more crushing chorus, as singer Brandon Boyd sang about living for the moment. It's become one of the band's biggest hits and you can hear it in full below.

So which song will advance -- Red Hot Chili Peppers' "By the Way" or Incubus' "Wish You Were Here"? You can vote once per hour through the deadline of Monday, Oct. 17 at 10AM ET, so make those votes count, and click the red button below to vote in the other Rocktober Rumble Matchups.
