Ray Wylie Hubbard Performs ‘Mother Blues’ on The Late Show with David Letterman [VIDEO]

We're not sure how excited Ray Wylie Hubbard gets about live performances these days, but the Texas music legend was clearly thrilled to have the opportunity to perform before a national TV audience on The Late Show with David Letterman. Wednesday night (1/9), Hubbard got that opportunity, and he and his band knocked it out of the park.

A few months ago, Letterman's people contacted Ray, asking him to be on the show, with a specific request. Dave wanted him to perform 'Mother Blues', an autobiographical song that appears on Ray Wylie Hubbard's latest CD, 'The Grifter's Hymnal'. Hubbard gladly accepted.

Ray showed his appreciation for the invitation at the end of the song, where he introduced his son, Lucas, on guitar, the rest of the band, and finished with a shout out to Dave Letterman:

"I’m very grateful to Dave Letterman for letting me be on his TV show. And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, I have really good days…been a damn fine day."

Letterman appeared smitten. He came over to shake hands with Hubbard and the band, saying:

'"Come on...how good is that? That was lovely!...We should, like, tour!"
