If you haven’t heard Power Trip yet, you haven’t been paying attention. The Texas natives have been riding the overwhelming success of one of thrash’s most visceral offerings in years, Nightmare Logic. As great and neck-wrecking as that album is, it’s onstage where Power Trip are in their element, invoking metal’s feral integrity with elbow-flinging intensity, reckless stage dives and some of the best circle pits since thrash’s rise to prominence in the mid-to-late ‘80s.

Spending most of the year on the road as a support act, Power Trip have been slaying crowds and arguably stealing the show, which is exactly what they did with just a two song set at the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards.

The highlight, of course, was when these riff-slingers teamed up with Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, a man who loves a good pit more than anyone with a pulse, for a hell-raising cover of Motorhead’s road warrior anthem “(We Are) The Road Crew.”  Riley Gale and Jasta traded off vocals, with Gale eventually finding his way into the crowd and climbing a bit of scaffolding during the set.

It was a perfect and fitting tribute, as the Lemmy Lifetime Achievement Award had been given out earlier in the evening. The title says it all about the working class ethic of both Power Trip and Jasta and they injected a serious dose of metal into one of rock’s hardest songs, doing dear ol’ Lem proud.

Before getting to the Motorhead classic, Power Trip fired up their Nightmare Logic cut “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)" with its trim-the-fat approach that takes a shot at political corruption and greed. In less than 10 minutes, Power Trip made their name known to any who were just introduced to their bare-knuckled thrash.
