There seems to be a giant push-back now from people who feel like "political correctness has gotten out of control". What a crock. All political correctness is is being considerate of others.

Let's look at Political Correctness.  Let's just put this right out there with an example. Advocates for mentally challenged people would prefer it if you don't use the term "retard". The problem is, you've used that term your whole life and when you used it, you don't really mean an actual person with mental challenges, you use it to describe when someone does something stupid. Sound fair enough?  Okay, we agree that your intent isn't to hurt anyone, it's "just a word". Well, why not learn "another word"?  Seriously, why would it hurt you to learn another word? We know you're going to make mistakes and "slip" every once in a while (I still do), but what does it hurt to try? It doesn't cost you anything. It doesn't take much effort. You know at some point you had to start saying "cell phone" instead of "telephone" and now people are saying "smart phone" and exactly how much did it bother you to change those terminologies?

Saying that you shouldn't have to be "politically correct" is the same as saying "I have a right to be an assh*e".  Hey this is America, you have a right to be that way if you want, but I'll bet there are terms your parents or grandparents used that you WOULD NOT DARE use in polite society today. Society is moving forward. Many of the topics I bring up with you are already a "done deal" when it comes to your kids. They aren't knuckledraggin' the way the older folks in America are. The times are changin' again and that makes some folks uncomfortable. Political Correctness is just being nice and there's no reason to not at least try to be nice.
