Whether a large business, individual or government institution, cutting back on costs is at the top of almost everyone’s priority list these days. That’s true for schools, as well, and one Pennsylvania school district has reduced cost in a zany fashion: via sheep.

They say they’ll save roughly $15,000 annually by nixing expensive lawn care costs and handing the responsibility of green yards to a herd of wooly sheep.

Their plan is to have the sheep graze near their solar panels to keep the grass trim. When they’ve finished eating their morning meal, they can then take refuge under the shade of the panels.

Since it costs nothing to feed the sheep (they’ll fill up on grass and the land stays healthy via their waste) the school only has to cover water costs to keep the creatures hydrated.

The sheep are being donated by a middle school assistant principal in the district.
