Hours before the 2016 Presidential Election ended, the Washington Post was already looking ahead and assuming Donald Trump was going to lose.

If he doesn't lose, the Washington Post believes that he could face a primary challenge from someone on the right.

The story by Sean Sullivan points out that no one has announced that they are running for President, but points to a few names of potential candidates in 2020, such as Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

Sullivan also writes that some Republicans may want even fresher faces in 2020. One of those candidates that Republicans may want? Texas Governor Greg Abbott:

Republicans are also interested in some fresher faces, including first-term Sens. Tom Cotton (Ark.), Cory Gardner (Colo.) and Joni Ernst (Iowa); and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Abbott, who first endorsed Senator Ted Cruz for President, then endorsed Donald Trump, hasn't made any moves indicating that he would be interested in the job. But it's not hard to see how he would make for an attractive Republican candidate.

Abbott has been in the national spotlight before, and as the Governor of deep-red Texas who also has the ability to court Hispanic voters, there will be many in the GOP who could look to Abbott in four years.

Whatever happens on Election Night, this story does prove one thing: The race for 2020 has already started.
