When Pantera released Cowboys From Hell in 1990, both industry insiders and fans recognized that heavy metal was about to reach its next turning point. It wasn't until two years later that Pantera released Vulgar Display of Power, rounding that corner, looking straight ahead at an open road that was theirs to pave throughout the remainder of the decade — which brings us to our cause for celebration!

Feb. 25, 2017, marks the 25th anniversary of this legendary Pantera album, and we've gathered not only all three surviving members of the band -- Philip Anselmo, Rex Brown and Vinnie Paul -- but the album's producer, Terry Date, photographer Brad Guice, who shot the iconic album cover. Additionally, you'll see some of the biggest names in metal and hard rock reflecting on the album that changed the direction of metal in our three-part Loudwire Legacy documentary (seen above and below).

Breaking down Vulgar Display of Power, we first examine the making of the album (video above), followed by the impact it left on the heavy metal landscape (watch below) and finally, the secret story behind that iconic album cover (watch below).

Now, turn your attention to the three videos on this page as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of one of metal's greatest albums!
