New Netflix Instant Releases — August 2014


If you’re looking for something to watch in the comfort of your own home, Netflix has some great new titles hitting Instant in August, including the long-awaited fourth season of ‘The Killing.’ Read on for our guide to the best new titles coming to Netflix Instant in August 2014.

‘Best Laid Plans’ (1999) — Alessandro Nivola, Reese Witherspoon, and Josh Brolin. A seemingly simple plan to steal money goes increasingly awry.

‘Blink’ (1994) — Madeleine Stowe, Aidan Quinn, James Remar. After an operation restores her sight, a woman has trouble remembering what she’s seen. When she sees her neighbor murdered, the woman is unsure if she actually witnessed the crime or if her mind is playing tricks on her.

‘Blown Away’ (1994) — Starring Jeff Bridges, Tommy Lee Jones, and Suzy Amis. An Irish bomber escapes from prison and targets a member of the Boston bomb squad.

‘Becoming Jane’ (2007) — Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy, and Julie Walters. A biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman.

‘Blue Car’ (2002) — David Strathairn, Agnes Bruckner, and Margaret Colin. A troubled young woman is encouraged by a teacher to enter a poetry contest.

‘Bounce’ (2000) — Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Natasha Henstridge. A man switches plane tickets with another man who dies in that plane in a crash. The man falls in love with the deceased one’s wife.

‘Boys and Girls’ (2000) — Freddie Prinze Jr., Claire Forlani, and Jason Biggs. A friendship is put to the ultimate test when two best friends wind up in bed together.

‘Brian’s Song’ (1971) — James Caan, Billy Dee Williams, and Jack Warden. Based on the real-life relationship between teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers and the bond established when Piccolo discovers that he is dying.

‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ (2001) — Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant. A British woman is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary.

‘Buffalo Soldiers’ (2001) — Joaquin Phoenix, Anna Paquin, and Ed Harris. A criminal subculture operates among U.S. soldiers stationed in West Germany just before the fall of the Berlin wall.

‘Caveman’ (1981) — Dennis Quaid, Ringo Starr, and Shelley Long. A caveman seeks revenge on a much larger competitor for the hand of a beautiful cavewoman.

‘Chaplin’ (1992) — Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, and Dan Aykroyd. A film about the troubled and controversial life of the master comedy filmmaker.

‘Chinatown’ (1974) — Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Huston. A private detective hired to expose an adulterer finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption and murder.

‘Cleopatra’ (1963) — Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Rex Harrison. The triumphs and tragedy of the Egyptian queen, Cleopatra.

‘Chocolat’ (2000) — Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, and Judi Dench. A woman and her daughter open a chocolate shop in a small French village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community.

‘Cypher’ (2002) — Jeremy Northam, Lucy Liu, and Nigel Bennett. An unsuspecting, disenchanted man finds himself working as a spy in the dangerous, high-stakes world of corporate espionage. Quickly getting way over-his-head, he teams up with a mysterious femme fatale.

‘Down to You’ (2000) — Freddie Prinze Jr., Julia Stiles, and Selma Blair. A young man wins and loses the first serious love of his life.

‘Elizabethtown’ (2005) — Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, and Susan Sarandon. During an outrageous memorial for a Southern patriarch, an unexpected romance blooms between a young woman and man.

‘The Killing’ Season 4 (2014) — Starring Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman, and Joan Allen. Detectives Linden and Holder return for an all-new season with a fresh mystery to solve, as Linden deals with the fallout from her actions at the end of season 3.
