Today's special Nintendo Direct featured a lot of news about new games coming down the line, updates for services, and some of Nintendo's plans for 2013. One tidbit was about a smartphone app that will allow you take the Miiverse anywhere.

Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, let loose with a bunch of details about how Nintendo will be improving their Miiverse social network. The update and web-based expansion is set for some time later this year and will feature the ability for users to create their own community, multiple official communities for titles, improved usability, and the addition of a filtering function.

They're also planning to improve the way you can view the Miiverse on smartphone browsers, which we'll see in the spring. But perhaps the biggest news concerning Miiverse functionality is the development of a Miiverse app for smartphones. You'll need to plug in your Nintendo ID and password to access the Miiverse, but it should allow for better socialization when you're away from your Wii U.

Let us know what you think about this feature and tell us if you'll use it!
