Michelle Obama and ‘First Dog’ Bo Give Military Families an Easter Surprise

As a way to celebrate Easter and mark April as the “Month of the Military Child,” First Lady Michelle Obama visited hospitalized vets and their families at the Fisher House on Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD., today.

The Fisher House Foundation greatly supports members of the military in their time of need. By donating “comfort homes,” Fisher House allows families to be near veterans while they’re undergoing treatment for illness, disease or injury.

With dog Bo (who was wearing a pair of bunny ears) in tow, Obama helped make crafts, doled out cookies made in the White House kitchen and gave out tickets to the 134th annual White House Easter Egg Roll to be held on April 9th.

According to Obama, uniting sick and injured vets with their families is the least the country can do. “Our military families, our troops — you all deserve this kind of high-level treatment for what you go through for this country, for what you sacrifice,” she said. “This should be the kind of place that welcomes you in times like these. So we always are just thrilled to shine a light on the good work [of the Fisher House].”
