Metallica have announced their own festival. Calling it the Orion Music + More festival it all goes down June 23-24 in New Jersey. Why not their home town of San Fransisco? Don’t ask me. They also chose some fairly random openers for both days. Some bands make perfect sense and some are just out there. Here’s the line-up of other acts for the 2 day fest.

Metallica

Arctic Monkeys

Avenged Sevenfold

Modest Mouse

The Gaslight Anthem

Cage the Elephant

F—ed Up

Best Coast

Hot Snakes

Titus Andronicus

Gary Clark Jr.

Lucero

Roky Erickson

The Black Angels

The Sword

Liturgy

A Place to Bury Strangers

Obviously some of those bands are well worth the time to see, and the others I’m wondering why you would pay over $100 a ticket for just Metallica.

According to their own new website dedicated to the festival: “Headlining both nights, Metallica will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ‘Black Album’ by playing it in its entirety on one night AND all of ‘Ride the Lightning’ for the first time ever on the other night! This will be the only North American performances of these albums in 2012.”

Here is their, for some reason 23 minute long, concert announcement.
