It's the kings of thrash against metal's modern day vikings in the Mosh Pit Region in Round 1 of March Metal Madness. Either Metallica's "My Apocalypse" or Amon Amarth's "Twilight of the Thunder God" will make it to the next round in an effort to be crowned the Best Metal Song of the 21st Century. The gauntlet has been thrown down!

Metallica fans celebrated the long-awaited release of Death Magnetic with enthusiasm. Many hailed it as a return to form and the album yielded another plethora of unforgettable Metallica hits, one of them being "My Apocalypse." The closing track on the album is also the shortest, finishing things off with an in-your-face attitude that demonstrates why the thrash heroes are still at the top of their world. As one of the biggest bands in the world, Metallica appear to be the favorites here, but Amon Amarth's fans are vikings always willing to go to battle.

Amon Amarth have penned some of the most anthemic extreme metal songs to date, detailing anything and everything about vikings. Fusing melody with relentless double kicks and driving rhythms, the band has become a force onstage, taking fans back to the days where Nordic warriors ruled the land. "Twilight of the Thunder God" is the title track from the band's seventh studio album and is a fan favorite. Opening with a memorable melody, the song bursts with fearless energy and Johan Hegg's gritty growl narrating the tale.

So, which song will move on to the second round of March Metal Madness 2016? Listen to both tracks and vote for either Metallica's "My Apocalypse" or Amon Amarth's "Twilight of the Thunder God" as the Best Metal Song of the 21st Century in the poll below!

(This poll will end on Tuesday, March 8 at 9AM EST. Fans are able to vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure your favorite song wins!)
