Metal Gear Solid 5 Gameplay Demo: Horse Poo, Fulton Bombs and Other Base
This new gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain from Gamescom revisits Afghanistan yet again, but clears it in a way we never could have expected.
Gamespot reports that Hideo Kojima aired an extended demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at Gamescom 2014. This demo revisits the same Middle Eastern scenario we have seen at E3 2014, where Revolver Ocelot guides Big Boss into Afghanistan to rescue Kaz Miller, but this playthrough was quite different. First, the enemy forces change in accordance to your previous tactics in the area. If you did a lot of tranquilizer headshots your last time there, enemies will be wearing helmets upon your return. If you infiltrated the enemy compound at night and caused nighttime chaos during a previous mission in the area, the next time you return, the area will have floodlights. In this demo, Snake disabled the generator for all of the floodlights in the area. As soon as this happened, enemy soldiers called in an Apache chopper, armed with a 50-caliber machine gun and a spotlight, that immediately started investigating the area, looking for Big Boss. Snake put C4 onto a jeep, Fulton-ed it into the air, and detonated the C4 on its ascent, blowing up the enemy chopper in the process in a way we were never expecting.
During the demo, Snake commanded his horse to defecate in the street, causing an enemy jeep to spin out of control as it ran over the pile while speeding down the dirt road. Mister Ed would be proud.
The other part of the demo showed Snake going to his Mother Base, but something was quite different. Instead of Snake’s “Diamond Dogs” logo, “Roughneck Ravens” and “Stubborn Sheep” insignias were on the equipment throughout the base. Why would there be a different Private Military Company advertised than Diamond Dogs?
Every Phantom Pain player will have their own Mother Base, and you will be able to invade other people’s bases online. Given the prevalence of Private Military Companies in the plot of Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, it would make sense that there would be other PMCs you encounter other than Snake’s Diamond Dogs. We have a feeling that this will play similar to Arno’s co-op multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed Unity and the 1v1 hacking events of Watch Dogs — each player is playing as the protagonist in each of their own games, but the other player will appear as a different character to the person playing. The same will likely apply to the Diamond Dogs label. Since Diamond Dogs is Snake’s PMC in the story, these other companies will belong to your opposing players when playing online — each player will appear as they are playing as Snake and representing Diamond Dogs in their own game.
While Hideo Kojima still hasn’t reveal a release date, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch sometime in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

You can ride out to Mother Base in Metal Gear, but can you ride out from your mother’s place in a… Metal Gear?
