Metal Allegiance on Covering Deep Purple’s ‘Made in Japan’ for Brooklyn Show

Metal Allegiance will be performing Deep Purple's phenomenal live album Made in Japan in its entirety at St. Vitus in Brooklyn, N.Y. The show, dubbed 'Made in Brooklyn,' is presented by Loudwire and will take place on Aug. 11. Guitarist Alex Skolnick and bassist Mark Menghi recently dropped by our studio to discuss how they plan on tackling such a legendary record.

Before the interview, Menghi told us Metal Allegiance were initially making plans to perform Iron Maiden's Maiden Japan, but the band ultimately turned into Deep Purple's Made in Japan to celebrate the band's recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The live effort brings a wealth of challenges for the metal vets, as Purple extended many of the songs on the album, playing loose arrangements and jamming throughout the set.

Since Metal Allegiance will be performing without a keyboard / organ player, they'll be utilizing the talents of Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal, whose double-neck guitar will allow him to pay tribute to the great Jon Lord. Of course, doing justice to Ian Gillan's unstoppable performance will pose another hurdle, even for an experienced singer like Mark Osegeuda (Death Angel), as Menghi noted during the interview.
