A new Melvins album is always exciting as fans never really know what to expect from this troupe of delightful musical weirdos. Throughout their three decade-plus career, they've explored grunge, sludge, noise rock and a lot in between and outside these parameters. With the double album A Walk With Love and Death coming out July 7 via Ipecac, they've teamed up with Loudwire to premiere the first new song off the album, "Christ Hammer," which can be heard below.

"The name alone says it all," Buzz Osborne says of the nearly four-minute track. "Christ Hammer" opens with a plodding rhythm and lightly-picked chords with as minimalist lead playing lies over this soft musical bed. As the feature riff intensifies, Osborne employs a strict, rigid cadence over the verse, but the tension is relieved with a cascading chorus.

We're treated to some of the Melvins' quirkier elements over the last minute of the song as droning, scratchy guitar work weaves in noisy moments while maintaining the same rock-steady pace employed throughout "Christ Hammer."

A Walk With Love and Death is one giant, dark, moody, psychotic head trip! Not for the faint of heart. You'll sleep with the lights on after listening," said drummer Dale Crover about the double album on the whole. The first part of the album, Death, is a proper Melvins record while Love is a score for the short film in which the double album was named after.

Pre-orders for A Walk With Love and Death can be placed here for physical and digital options.

You can catch the Melvins on tour quite literally all summer as they embark on a massive headlining North American run stretching from July 7 through Oct. 3. Support throughout the trek will come from Spotlights and a list of stops can be seen below.
