I know, I know, I need another horse like I need another hole in my head, but there's something special about this guy... His name is Captain Crane and he's an 8 year old Thoroughbred straight off the track.

We found out about Captain through a friend at the feed store who wanted to take him home, but was afraid her man would leave her! (Nan already has eight!)

Getting a horse off the track is a gamble... Excuse the pun. Not all off track Thoroughbreds are able to make the transition to being a pleasure horse. That's why there are so many Thoroughbred rescues out there, but this guy, who was raced just a month ago and sore from a hoof injury to boot (he clipped his shoe) was a gem this morning when our fabulous trainer and friend Julie Norman hopped on.

Everything was new for him. New bit, new saddle, strange person... with most horses this would be a recipe for disaster but he had such a good attitude. Especially when the guy giving Julie a leg up didn't give it enough umph... She had to crawl up the side of him like a monkey!

So, here's to our new baby Captain! Wish us luck as we embark on our journey of getting to know each other and adapting him to his new life! I'll post pictures often!
