‘Max Payne 3′ Trailer – What’s the Song?

Video game commercials look a lot like movie trailers these days, with quick cuts between realistic-looking scenes that tell a story. The action-packed ‘Max Payne 3′ promo features the music of a Los Angeles indie band.

The pulsing rock song that plays throughout the ad is ‘Tears’ by Los Angeles noise rock band Health. While some commercials use obscure songs that are difficult to locate, ‘Tears’ is easy to find — it’s on the ‘Max Payne 3′ soundtrack, along with 24 other songs by Health, who scored the whole thing.

The game is set in Brazil, where Max once again finds himself surrounded by violence. Part of the commercial follows a slow-motion bullet like in the classic Korn video ‘Freak on a Leash.’ Gunfights erupt everywhere, and soldiers toss hand grenades in the middle of the action. The only non-violent scene is a brief clip of a woman in a short skirt getting out of her car for what looks like a red carpet event.

‘Max Payne 3′ is a third-person shooter game from the makers of ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ The game and the soundtrack by Health are available in stores now.

Health’s John Famiglietti told the Village Voice, “The game was still being worked on when we came on the project. Levels would change pretty radically during the whole time we were composing, and we kept composing and changing things right up to two weeks before the release date.” Of the commercial specifically, he said, “It was cool. I thought the spot was well done and really featured the music.”
