Game of Thrones' content naturally lends itself for heavy metal. Yesterday (July 16) this came to a head, when Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor apparently made a cameo on the show's season seven premiere as a white walker, marching through the cloudy mists. Metal Injection caught a screengrab of the scene, which you can check out below.

This follows up with what we'd heard earlier in the year, that members of Mastodon would be making continued appearances on the show. Guitarist Brent Hinds said in an interview with The Jasta Show he'd be making his second cameo, so this may mean the band will show up several other times during the season if we're lucky. This follows up most of the band's initial cameo two years ago on season five, where they also appeared as white walkers.

It's been a big year for Mastodon already, even without counting their recent GOT appearance. Just last week, the metal band appeared on Conan to perform their single "Show Yourself" off the recent album Emperor of Sand, where they brought an enthused performance to the late night program. Elsewhere, they've also had a bit of fun, producing a skit with Pabst Blue Ribbon where they portray having to deal with an obnoxiously overbearing PR person for the beer brand.

With the release of Emperor of Sand, Mastodon landed their third consecutive Top 10 album, selling 43,000 units in the first week. Emperor of Sand was officially the highest selling album in America during its debut week, outselling chart-toppers like Drake, Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars.

Mastodon have a full plate for the rest of the year, embarking on a North American tour this fall. They'll be joined by Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles, who create a perfectly complementary lineup for the fall tour.
