Low on Cash and Looking for Cheap Entertainment in Abilene? Here Are 5 Things You Can Do
If you're low on cash and looking for cheap ways to have fun in Abilene, I got you covered. Here are 5 ways you can still have a little fun in the key city that won't break your pocket book.
Disc Golf
Disc Golf, played just like golf but with discs instead, is a cheap and easy way to not only have a little fun, but get some exercise as well. My friends and family and I get together at least once a week to throw some plastic. It's a great way to get outdoors and it does not cost a thing to go play here in Abilene. Usually, if you don't have any discs, you can just borrow a few discs from your group to play until you have enough money to buy your own. There are several disc golf courses around Abilene to play on. In fact, I wrote a blog a while back that has info on the courses you can play on in Abilene. Check out that link below as well as a link that teaches you how to play.
Swimming
This is a no brainer as the heat in Abilene during the summer gets flat out brutal. Most places that you can swim at in town don't cost that much at all. In fact, the most expensive that I've seen is like $4.00. Totally worth it to stay cool and spend some time with your family and friends. You can also just go out to the lake and spend the day out there for free. If your set on finding a swimming pool, check out Rudy's blog on the 5 best swimming places in Abilene by following the link below.
Go to the Park
The park is always a good place to go have a little fun...and it's free! Whether you just want to walk around and get some exercise, play some baseball or take the kids to the park to play, Abilene has several parks to do just that. Maybe you got a date coming up and you're flat broke, take a little picnic out to the park and just hang out with your significant other and watch the sun set or feed the ducks at Nelson Park. Whatever you do, going to the park is definitely a cheap form of entertainment. If you're looking for a good park, check out the link below.
The Abilene Zoo
For a town of our size, we have a pretty amazing zoo. Heck, for a town of any size, it's a cool zoo...and it's not that expensive to go check out. The Abilene Zoo is located in Nelson Park and has all of the usual animals you'll find at any zoo, plus, animals that you might find here in our area. The coolest part is that you won't spend a lot of money there and you can literally spend all day there. For more info on the Abilene Zoo, check out the links below.
Head Out To The Lake
It doesn't cost much to just simply head out to the lake and the Abilene area has several of them to choose from. Whether you want to swim, or do a little fishing, heading out to the lake is another cheap form of entertainment. There are several lakes in and around Abilene including Lake Fort Phantom, Lake Kirby, and Lake Abilene which is at the Abilene State Park. You can camp, fish, swim, grill or throw a lake party and it won't cost you a bunch of money. There are several other lakes around Abilene that are awesome, as well, including Possum Kingdom Lake and Hubbard Creek Resevoir. For more on the lakes around Abilene, check out the links below.
