Loudwire Podcast #9 – Napalm Death’s Barney Greenway Gets Political

Between the United States and England, the world has been a political hotbed between the election of Donald Trump as the next President of the U.S. and England withdrawing from the European Union, dubbed 'Brexit.' With all this turmoil, we seized the opportunity to sit down with politically outspoken Napalm Death frontman Barney Greenway!

Before Napalm's headlining show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City, we holed away in a narrow office upstairs at the venue to dodge all the noise from soundchecks and road case wheels scratching across the floor. We dove right into the politics, considering the British grind legends were touring the U.S. as the election unfolded. Whether you lean on the left, right or somewhere in the middle, this podcast was dedicated to open discussion with a focus on the humanitarian front.

This facet was especially important to Greenway, who realized the importance of basic human rights regardless of geographical boundaries and that a person is a person. Backing up the notion that helping fellow humans works from the bottom up, he harped on not treating people who are worse off like dirt because they are the same as us.

In our 'Rocker vs. Writer' segment, we, of course, kept it political! When we drew up potential topics for this segment, one was "Should non-political bands talk about politics publicly?" Our prime choice was Greenway before even starting this podcast, so we were grateful for the opportunity to discuss this topic with him. The frontman not surprisingly took the side that bands can say whatever they want, while co-host Joe DiVita played devil's advocate entertaining the side that non-political musicians should stay out of it.
