Welcome to Episode Three of the Loudwire Podcast! This time around, Alice in Chains vocalist William DuVall and Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, both of the new band Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, joined us in the studio!

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra also features members of Mastodon and The Mars Volta, so the music these guy produce could have been the weirdest stuff imaginable. However, the band went for a smoother sound, which DuVall and Weinman explain in this interview.

DuVall just came off a legendary slot opening for Guns N’ Roses’ reunion tour. We asked William about his experience opening for the tour of the century and also got his opinion of Axl Rose singing for AC/DC. As a man who replaced a rock legend in his own right, it was fascinating to hear DuVall’s take on the somewhat divisive “Axl/DC.” As for Ben’s career in The Dillinger Escape Plan, we took things back to the early 2000s and delved into Dillinger’s brain-scrambling Irony is a Dead Scene EP featuring Faith No More legend Mike Patton.

For this episode’s ‘Rocker vs. Writer’ segment, we debated the merits of the term “supergroup.” The Giraffe Tongue Orchestra musicians argued that “supergroup” is mostly overused and can create false expectations, while Loudwire Podcast co-host Joe DiVita defended the term.
